Cars in German Town Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Officers reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism left him without words and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
