19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard court after March of 2023.

The win also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is really nice," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional victory, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
